WINDSOR RENTAL BOYCOTT: A fiery situation

WINDSOR EAST – An elderly couple was threatened by people claiming to part if the movement.

Rob Golding, a body corporate chairperson for a property on Princes Avenue, says intimidation by the movement started long before May this year.

Golding said he was approached by members of the group 18 months ago who assumed the property, consisting of three ground floor flats, was abandoned.

“My tenant at the time was charging other people rent to live inside the units, they demanded that he produce title deeds or there would be trouble.”

After hearing about the situation Golding decided to give his tenants and sub-tenants notice. Then, about six months ago, with new tenants and new owners, his tenants were again approached by people claiming to be from the movement with the same demand.

According to Golding, the group went to Unit 1 where an elderly couple, who are around 74 years old, live and started demanding the title deeds again. The property is owned by their daughter.

“They threatened to burn the house down with the couple inside if the title deeds weren’t produced.”

He said that at one point, the couple was given three hours to leave the house or the burning would start.

“The couple sought legal advice, went to court and obtained a restraining order against these people,” added Golding.

He said that since then, and for the last two or three months, there have been no further incidents.

The video below shows a separate incident of alleged intimidation by the WCRM, against a property agent in Windsor East:
