Encores all around for school play

NORTH RIDING – British International Preparatory School captivated audiences with their production.

British International Preparatory School invited the community to enjoy a two-night show with Sultan Pepper and The Bongo Bandits.

The school production was loosely based on Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves. The actors were between five and 11 years old.

“Everyone who attended was unanimous in their praise saying that this was the best production that the school has put on to date,” said the principal, Dr. Garth Thompson.

He said the first evening the event was sold out with 370 tickets being bought. “We had to turn people away, and on the second evening we were almost sold out again,” said Thompson.

The smiles on the children’s faces were the perfect gauge of exactly how much they enjoyed both evenings, with excited laughter and high energy levels both before and after their performances.

The school’s drama department was responsible for the props, choreography, and music. Volunteer mothers helped put the set together.

Thompson said parents and visitors enjoyed the production too. Their eager applause and their shouts for an encore at the end of each evening’s production were a dead giveaway.

“I especially enjoyed the small children and younger siblings, who attended dancing in front of the stage where we had created an area for them with rubber mats. [They were] dancing along to the music and even interacting with the cast members when they came toward the front of the stage.”
