Saints donates R500 000 to its beneficiaries

NORTH RIDING – Saints Animal Charity Shop donates funds to help animal welfare organisations in need.

Saints Animal Charity Shop recently gave R500 000 to beneficiaries in need of assistance.

The charity shop supports 10 local animal welfare organisations: Animal Allies, Border Collie Rescue, Community Led Animal Welfare, CO-SANC, DogtownSA/Barking Mad, Friends of Rescued Animals, Greyhound Welfare SA, Husky Rescue SA, Pawesome Wacky Whiskers Rescue & Rehoming and Spaniel Welfare SA.

To donate this awesome amount of money, the organisation worked extra hard during their birthday month to pay over birthday bonuses to the beneficiaries. This comprised of the unallocated funds they raised throughout the year, as well as from the sales designated to the respective beneficiary by the donors.

“This year we not only paid our bonuses in the amount of R500 000 but also handed over R10 000 to The 9th Day vet account as a token of appreciation for their hard work,” said the owner, Viv Elliott.

She added the funds distributed to beneficiaries were raised primarily through sales from donations received from the public, as well as the various events they would host. “We have raffles and book sales and we sell items from our charity shop,” said Elliott.

Elliott explained the beneficiaries are always grateful for the bonus handovers and funds raised for them, as it has a huge impact on their day-to-day operations.

“It’s important to give back to the shelters, to alleviate the day-to-day stresses and pressures of being responsible for so many unwanted pets. We also feel that we have a responsibility to educate the public on the reality of shelters and control of the pet population in general.”

This year the organisation will raise funds to go to their sterilisation fund specifically. Organisations who participate in outreach projects team up with them to sterilise animals in impoverished areas. In the next five years, they hope to continue their success and see the benefit of the increased numbers of sterilised and homed animals in the province (even country).
