Delays and frustration at the Randburg Licensing Department

BLAIRGOWRIE – Ward 102 councillor David Potter highlights some of the challenges the licensing department currently faces.

Ward 102 councillor David Potter is concerned about the frustrations community members face at Randburg Licensing Department due to long queues and slow service.

He explained that the City of Johannesburg provides driver’s and vehicle licence renewal services on behalf of the national and provincial government on the National Traffic Information System (eNatis).

“Recently the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) has taken over the services from Tasima which is involved in a large legal dispute,” said Potter.

He said over the past few weeks only two of the six machines at the office have been in working order.

“Just this week, a few more machines have been fixed and brought online to serve members of the public.”

Potter said to add to the IT infrastructure challenges, the City’s Midrand and Sandton licensing departments are currently undergoing renovations. This has limited services at these offices and increased the demand for services at the Randburg Licensing Department.

He added that these challenges and service delivery concerns were raised with the relevant units in the City for discussion with the RTMC.

Potter said residents have to bear in mind that the Randburg office closes before the actual closing time on some days so that the officials have enough time to serve the people who are still in the queues before the officials have to cash up and secure the office for the day.

He said it important to note that the issues are largely out of the control of the City of Johannesburg’s administration and that the increase in working machines at the licensing department will aid in restoring much-needed service delivery.
