It was a spectacular sight to see at Randpark Primary School when a sea of red noses filled its premises.
To have these red noses, the school contacted Red Nose Day South Africa to order the noses for them. They then sold the noses to the children for R30 and proceeds went to Child Welfare South Africa. To understand the sentiment behind their red noses, children watched a video by Comic Relief that explained where all the money would go.
Although Red Nose Day was celebrated on 24 March this year, the school still felt the need to do their part and give back those children in need. As no nose was left bare on the day, each red nose put on, induced beautiful smiles among all the children.
Child Welfare South Africa has various campaigns throughout the year such as Tekkie Tax, Global Running Day, Child Protection Week, Youth Day, Mandela Day along with 16 Days of Activism, to name a few. The organisation is described as being an umbrella body that represents 151 child welfare affiliates, 30 developing organisations, 25 outreach projects and 206 communities. Its mission is to promote the well-being and safety of all children.
Red Nose Day was first celebrated on 8 February 1988 when English comedian and co-founder of Comic Relief, Lenny Henry, went to Ethiopia for the first Red Nose Day telethon.
