VOXPOP: To swim or not to swim? That is the question

RANDBURG – Will you be using Joburg's public pools this spring?

Nonhlanhla Sifumba, MMC for Community Development, has stated that by 1 September at least 90 per cent of the City of Johannesburg’s public swimming pools will be open and functioning properly. We asked some community members in Randburg if they plan on using these pools come spring time and this is what they had to say…

Tatum Samsunder: I wouldn’t use them because they are always overcrowded and over chlorinated. You can smell the chlorine on you after swimming and your skin feels weird.

Khano Thabo: I wouldn’t because people will urinate in the pools and I cant imagine swimming in a pool of urine.

Mickheil Kuhlmann: I didn’t even know this was happening but I wouldn’t go to one because I’m not interested in public pools.

Ronsley Williams: I would be interested even though I have a pool at home. Upgrading the public pools are a good idea though.

Joy Sagwadi: Swimming isn’t really my thing but I would as the pricing is fair and the standard of cleanliness will be good.

Itekeng Fole: I would because the prices are reasonable. We can’t all afford to have pools in our homes so public pools allow us all to see if we have talents in swimming.

Pamela Fuzane: I wouldn’t because I feel like they are not hygienic nor safe in terms of health.
