Mandela Day festivities at the Randburg SPCA

NORTH RIDING – The community came together in what can be described as a pawsome show of love for animals.

The spirit of Mandela was seen as hundreds of people showed up at the Randburg SPCA to carry out their 67 minutes on 18 and 22 July.

The SPCA had many exciting activities going on for all sorts of people from young to old, to participate in. Young ones were able to make their mark and have their handprint painted on the wall by the kennels. A special project to the SPCA was the creation of enrichment toys for the cats and dogs. This is important to keep their minds healthy during their stays at the kennels.

Lian Wainwright makes sure the windows are prepped and ready for paint at the SPCA Randburg.

Delicious boerewors rolls were provided by CLE Properties and vegetarian sandwiches by management committee members were on sale for the hunger workers. The catteries were fitted with interactive toys and baskets for the furry felines to enjoy.

Dozens of people offered their time to clean out the SPCA, from kennels, to back rooms and gardens. The overnight room, which is used by staff members who sleep at the SPCA in case of emergencies, had a complete makeover. The Daisy Business Solutions team painted the overnight kennels in a pretty sky blue.

She was able to create the scented garden with pot plants for the cats with some lovely new plants. This is an ongoing project that will see exercise equipment as well, which will keep the furkids stimulated, healthy and in good shape.
