City’s e-statement portal is back up

JOBURG – The billing system had never produced an error of such a magnitude before.

The technical challenges that resulted in over half a million incorrect City of Johannesburg accounts in April and May, have been resolved.

The online statements viewing system is working as normal, group finance spokesperson Kgamanyane Maphologela confirmed.

He said customers can now again log online and view their statements.

Thousands of incorrect bills were issued in May after a major error within the City’s customer service delivery system. The City’s Executive Mayor Herman Mashaba called this a serious failure in its customer statement delivery system that has never produced an error of this magnitude before. He said he suspected the system was tampered with.

“We apologise for any confusion caused. Double billing is a historical issue in our City and we have plans in place to ensure that it is a thing of the past.”

Maphologela said the investigation to determine what caused the challenge is continuing. The City will announce the outcome once the investigations have been concluded, he said.

Meanwhile, you can still pay your account using third-party payment methods.

If you don’t like queues, you can pay using any of the listed methods below:
