55 arrests for Honeydew police

HONEYDEW – Drugs seem to be a problem in the community especially among the youth.

Honeydew police saw more than 55 arrests since 12 July.

Most police stations were on high alert last week in anticipation for the taxi strike which pre-empted multiple crime operations. Spokesperson for the station, Captain Balan Muthan confirmed that despite the taxi strike being called off, Honeydew police actively went ahead with their operation.

Multiple arrests were made for a variety of crimes including pointing a firearm, drug possession, drunken driving, possession of suspected stolen goods and assault.

Two teenagers, aged 14 and 16, were arrested for dagga possession.

“The problem with drugs in this area, especially dagga, seems to be affecting the youth now as well,” said Muthan.

He confirmed that the success rate of the operation is due to information received from the community and the support of other security companies.
