Randburg police’s Operation Fiela leads to arrest of alleged rapist

RANDBURG – All suspects will appear in the Randburg Magistrates Court.

Randburg police recently conducted its Operation Fiela which, among other arrests, led to the apprehension of a 31-year-old man who allegedly raped his friend.

On 9 July, a woman took a meter taxi from Sandton to her friend’s residence in Randburg. After she had paid for the taxi and exited it, the taxi then drove away. The victim then realised her purse was missing.
Spokesperson for Randburg Police Station, Captain Makgowanyana Maja said, “She alleged that she requested the friend to call the taxi to come back [thinking she may have left the purse inside the taxi], but he refused saying his cellphone battery was dead.

“The victim and her friend got into an argument and she alleged that the he then allegedly pushed her to the couch, dragged her into the bedroom and he forced himself onto her and raped her.”
The victim managed to get away from her friend and ran to security who called the police. The suspect was arrested and is expected to appear in Randburg Magistrates’ Court soon to face charges of rape.

During the operation, which involved the help of multiple security companies, suspects were arrested for other various crimes including:

  • Drunk driving
  • Dagga possession
  • Reckless and negligent driving
  • Theft b
  • Business burglary
  • Culpable homicide
  • Possession of stolen property
  • Possession of stolen motor vehicle
  • Assault.

All suspects will appear in the Randburg Magistrates’ Court to face their charges.
