MUST READ: Pepper spray altercation on Duiker Street, Randpark Ridge

RANDPARK RIDGE– Woman charged with gross bodily harm after she was allegedly beaten up at a petrol station.

A woman and a man appeared in the Randburg Magistrates’ Court on 5 July over a physical altercation at a petrol station parking lot.
The incident occurred on 4 July on Duiker Street, Randpark Ridge.

According to Honeydew police spokesperson Captain Balan Muthan, both complainants opened cases against each other.
He explained that the woman complainant was trying to park at a petrol station. A group of people were blocking the parking spot and she hooted and flashed her headlights to get them to move. It was then that the male complainant started shouting at the woman using foul language.
It was said he opened her car door and allegedly assaulted the woman. They both apparently used pepper spray on each other during the altercation.
“It is true that a charge of grievous bodily harm can be opened if someone uses pepper spray,” said Muthan.
He added that it could also be used for self-defence. “It is now up to the courts to decide the matter.”
The case was postponed to 17 July.
