Linden Bowling Club awarded the winners of the Linden Winter 4 bowls tournament on 24 June.
The tournament, which has been an annual event for the past 30 years, was well-supported by players and local businesses who donated vouchers and prizes.
It is one of the club’s biggest fundraisers of the year where 12 teams from Linden and 12 from other bowling clubs participate in a four-week tournament. The teams were mixed of men and women.

Although the tournament raised money for the club, the bowlers also raised R1 000 for the Firlands Children’s Home. Linden Bowling Club president, Marc Haley, said the club committee put in a lot of time into organising the event and made sure it ran smoothly. It was an enjoyable tournament for all with many prizes and raffles being won at the prize-giving ceremony on 24 June.

First place was taken by a ‘Rose among the thorns’ team comprising Jackie van Rensburg, Tracey-lee Botha, Maryann Nieuwoudt and ‘the rose’ Johan Crafford, from Northcliff Bowling Club.
“We are very grateful to Steve’s Spar and other local restaurants who sponsored vouchers. This tournament would not be able to happen without them,” said Haley.
Steve’s Spar Blackheath was the main sponsor of the event and has been for the past eight years.
