A Small Act of Kindness for those in need

BLAIRGOWRIE – The aim of the organisation is to assist old age homes, community foster homes, animal welfares, underprivileged nursery schools, the homeless and shelters

One Small Act of Kindness charity organisation based in Blairgowrie provides support and relief to those in need.

This organisation, headed by a team of three women, Kelly-Ann van der Meer, Karen Herman and Robyn Sayers, was created and set up almost a year ago from an idea on a Sunday night to help and assist communities and places that are missed or not assisted by other organisations.

Their aim is to assist old age homes, community foster homes, animal welfares, townships, locations, underprivileged nursery schools, the homeless as well as shelters.

They recently organised a charity drive to help with items to be used by victims of the Knysna fires. “The fire devastation left our hearts reeling and scrambling immediately to help,” said Herman.

She said with the generous support from the communities and local businesses, the wheels were set in motion and no matter the distance, the organisation was set to make a difference.

“We all rallied together and the donations began to stream in. We managed to fill up not one but two eight-ton trucks generously offered by Gift of the Givers to aid in transportation and safe delivery to the victims of the tragedy,” she said.

Most community members got involved and assisted with preparations and the packing of the items donated.

“The trucks were bursting with every single item you can imagine. From dog food, toiletries, shoes, clothes, nappies, water, furniture, to bedding and even relief items for our honoured fire fighters,” said Herman.

The charity organisation thanked everyone who was involved in the process. Members of the public who wish to make contributions or to get involved in any of their upcoming projects are welcome to contact the organisation.
