High-impact collision on R512 kills biker

LANSERIA – A biker was found lying two metres away from the wreckage of his bike with life-threatening injuries.

A biker has died after a high-impact collision with a bakkie.

On 25 June, Netcare 911 paramedics responded to a scene on the R512 about 15km away from Lanseria Airport. Media liaison officer, Chris Botha said reports from bystanders indicated the bakkie had unexpectedly stopped, presumably to turn around, when the bike slammed into the back of it.

The biker, a 59-year-old male, was found lying about two metres from the wreckage of his bike with life-threatening injuries. Netcare 911 Advanced Life Support paramedic sarrived at the scene to find the crumpled remains of the bike and bakkie, consistent with a high impact collision, obstructing the roadway.

“The man’s condition necessitated the Advanced Life Support paramedic to place him on a ventilator and start with resuscitation protocols,” said Botha. Adding that paramedics and two doctors at the scene worked for some time before they managed to get the man’s heart to start beating again.

He concluded the patient was stabilised and spinally immobilised on a trauma board before they transported him to a nearby hospital.

“Tragically, despite their efforts and that of the hospital medical team, the man was declared dead soon after arriving at the hospital.”
