UPDATE: Local business confirms fire victims are improving

BLAIRGOWRIE – No further comment given from a business at the scene of a Blairgowrie Plaza fire.

Although initial reports from the scene said a food warmer exploded, it is unclear what started the fire at Blairgowrie Plaza.

Details of who was using the storeroom garage are also unclear. Kyle van Niekerk, a shop assistant at Extra Pets in the plaza, assumed it was West Pack Express Blairgowrie that was using the garage but its manager, Tony de Ponte said it was not their garage/storeroom.

A vehicle, which was also damaged in the fire, was said to be using the garage at the time. The vehicle belongs to Orchid International, a distributor of packaging and other consumables to restaurants, supermarkets and other hospitality outlets. Orchid International would not comment on the incident but said the victims of the fire were ‘improving’.

Two individuals suffered burns and were treated and rushed to a nearby hospital on 15 June, when the fire started in one of the garages behind the plaza.
