RAND PARK – The Senior Women's Golf Gauteng Championship takes place at Randpark Golf Club.

The annual Senior Women’s Golf Gauteng Championship took over the Randpark Golf Club greens as these passionate golfers left not a single swing to chance.

The championship was a stroke play competition played over 36 holes. Western Province golfer, Lorraine Smit was named champion after carding 162. Runner-up was Leslie Nienaber of Ekurhuleni with 166 followed by Niki Christie of Gauteng with a score of 171.

Women play a stroke play competition over 36 holes.

This year’s championship had 200 women compete in hopes they would make their club proud. To compete in the championship, clubs held their respective competitions to find their best golfers to represent them.

Championship president, Ginny Schoombie, said there were 13 provincial teams who competed in the event which alternates between coastal and inland provinces each year and it will only come back to Gauteng in 12 years time. “Next year the championship will be held in St Francis Bay,” added Schoombie.

Randpark Golf Club is the venue for the annual Senior Women’s Golf Gauteng Championships.

Golfers in various age categories compete in the championships.

The biggest need for this championship was finding a golf course suitable for the event and Schoombie shared how grateful she was for Randpark Golf Club making available their two golf courses.

Schoombie shared her hope that championships like these be recognised throughout the country so senior women golfers were given the recognition they so deserve.

Women from all over the country came to compete in this annual event.
