Wings of Hope raises awareness about breast cancer

OLIVEDALE – Wings of Hope educates the public about breast cancer and breast health at Netcare Olivedale Hospital.

Netcare Olivedale Hospital hosted Wings of Hope, an organisation established by breast cancer survivors to provide support to those who are battling the condition.

Members of the Wings of Hope visited the hospital to educate the public about breast health and breast cancer.

The hospital’s general manager Linda Bhagaloo said they were greatly honoured to host this organisation.

“Netcare Olivedale Hospital has had a long relationship with Wings of Hope, a non-profit organisation of volunteers that plays an important role in our community,” said Bhagaloo.

She added that being diagnosed with cancer was a life-changing experience and it was all too common for people to feel isolated when they found themselves in this position.

“This organisation provides a safe and empathetic environment for sharing experiences,” she said.

“We as Netcare Olivedale Hospital know how important finding a supportive community can be for those impacted by the condition and will always seek to provide such valued organisations with support in any way we can.”

According to the hospital’s patient liaison officer Deborah Sieff, the hospital hosted the volunteers of Wings of Hope at least twice every year.

“The organisation sets up an information table in order to spread awareness about breast health and breast cancer, and sells various goods in order to raise funds to support their activities,” she added.
