UPDATE: Boy must have climbed through the window – grieving mother

RANDBURG CBD — Tragedy struck in the Randburg CBD when a three-year-old boy fell to his death after climbing through a window of a 14-storey building.

 

The mother of the three-year-old boy who fell to his death from a 14-storey building said she thought he was sleeping.

According to the Randburg police station spokesperson captain Makgowanyana Maja who was on the scene, the mother was alerted by a neighbour that a small child had fallen out of a window at around 8.30am.

Sadly when she went to look in the bedroom she found that her son was not in his bed in Pretoria Avenue in the Randburg CBD.

“It was at that point that the neighbour took the boy’s mother, downstairs, where she was shown the body of her child,” Maja said.

Maja further explained that the police and the paramedics were summoned and the child was certified dead on the scene shortly thereafter.

He added that an inquest docket has been opened and an investigation is underway. No arrests have been made.

An anonymous eye-witness expressed shock at the incident.

“Cleaners outside saw the baby fall and we called the trustees. At about 8.45am the mother came outside and picked up the baby,” she said, adding that the baby appeared dead already.

“They put the baby back down and covered him with a blanket when the Randburg police arrived they asked the crowd to leave.” the witness said.
