Cosmo City murder leaves residents shaken

COSMO CITY – Residents concerned about crime in Cosmo City following a house robbery and murder on 21 April.

Honeydew Police are looking for a notorious gang who are terrorizing the community.

his follows the death of Peggy Sdudla, a backroom dweller, who was robbed and murdered by the gang of three men in the early hours of 21 April.

According to Honeydew Police spokesperson Captain Balan Muthan, the incident happened in Ext 6 and the victim died on the scene.

“At 3am, the complainant and his friend both woke up when three suspects broke open the door to their room and gained entry,” he said.

One of the suspects was armed with a firearm. Muthan added that the suspects, who were dressed in black, demanded money and other valuables.

“The suspects took two cell phones, clothes and R10, and before leaving, one of the suspects shot Sdudla who was in his bed, [even though he didn’t] resist or fight back,” Muthan explained.

The deceased’s landlord who wanted to remain anonymous for fear of being victimised said the police responded quickly, but the residents of Cosmo City are living in fear.

“Police were very quick to arrive at the scene because they had just come back from another incident in the area,” the landlord said.

It is believed that the suspects committed a crime in extension four, and while police responded to that complaint, they moved to Ext 6 where they robbed the victims and committed the murder.

“We are living in fear in this area because just a few days ago, a woman was raped in front of her husband at gunpoint,” the landlord said.

Muthan recently warned Cosmo City residents to refrain from building backroom accommodation as this resulted in a hike in housebreakings.

An activist against crime in the area told Randburg Sun that they will be mobilising residents to march to Honeydew Police Station to appeal for more manpower to curb crime in Cosmo City.
