The Four King Ace rock band from Randpark Ridge is scheduled to release a self-financed debut album this month at a launch party at Amuse Café in Linden.
This is a band of four experienced local musicians who found each other through their experiences in the South African music fraternity.

Mike Kelly plays lead guitar, Clint Toci Dyer on drums, Paul Houston is the singer and also plays rhythm guitar and Sean Kelly plays bass.
“We are all experienced musicians who were never quite happy with the previous bands we’d been in. We were all looking for a similar sound and vision. So, by word of mouth and social media, we found each other and have gone from strength to strength,” said Houston.

Four King Ace is inspired by great catchy songs, loud guitars and a never-say-die attitude.
“We love bands like the Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Cheap Trick, The Ramones and The Clash,” he said.
Houston said the group loved and focused on old-fashioned song structures with catchy verses, bridges, choruses and mid-80s music with a modern twist.
These musicians have day jobs and they fund their own projects.

The pure love of making music, writing and completing new songs is still the band’s biggest thrill, which keeps them going. The recording of the album titled, Never Aim to Please genuinely bonded these artists as a band working towards a common goal.
“The band did everything, from songwriting to playing and the artwork. Also, our first gig was memorable. Some of the guys were really nervous but after the gig we all knew, this is going to be good,” said Houston.
On 22 April they will be playing at Rumours Rock City in Blackheath for a charity show at 3pm, and then launching their debut album at Amuse Cafe in Linden.
