Ward 117 councillor provides logistics for Friday march in Jhb CBD

JOBURG – With South Africans' unhappiness about the country's president, local ward councillor urges Joburgers to join the DA march to Mary Fitzgerald Square.

Ward 117 councillor Tim Truluck advised community members planning to join the march to Mary Fitzgerald Square to meet on Anderson Street next to Westgate Rea Vaya Station in the Johannesburg CBD.

The so-called ‘Remove Zuma’ march will start at 10am and will end at about 1pm on 7 April.

“There are several small protest activities in the various suburbs that you can find on the suburban Facebook groups in your area,” Truluck said.

However, the councillor called on residents to also join the Democratic Alliance (DA) organised march to the square.

How to get to the march:

“Catch the Gautrain to Park Station at 9.04am. We will then catch the J2 Gautrain Bus to stop 7 in Anderson Street and then walk about 500m along Anderson Street to the start of the march next to Westgate Rea Vaya station.

“You can also Uber or park at The Sheds in 14 Alexander Street, Ferreirasdorp, and walk 300m south up Alexander Street to the start,” explained Truluck.

He believes that there will be a lot of security staff, police officers and Metro police officers in the area who could help community members if they happen to become lost.

And when it’s over?

“Afterwards, you can Uber home, walk back to The Sheds or catch the bus back to The Gautrain from Stop 10 on the corner of Pixley ka Isaka Seme (formerly Sauer Street) and Kerk streets,” Truluck said.

Meanwhile, the Organisation Undoing Tax Abuse (Outa) – who joined the call for the president to step down – expects a massive turnout.

Wayne Duvenage, the chairperson of the organisation said, “Many businesses have indicated they will be giving their staff the day off, while others will sign leave forms for all who wish to participate in this important show of solidarity.”

Outa said it believes 7 April will be the dawn of a new organised unified energy which will drive the change required to improve the prosperity of our nation.
