A wonderful journey of fellowship

HONEYDEW – Members of the African Leadership Academy Interact Club attend an inaugural ceremony at the African Leadership Academy.

The Interact Club hosted an inaugural induction ceremony and dinner for the African Leadership Academy (Ala) on 28 March and was sponsored by the Rotary Club of Randburg.

The induction ceremony was attended by Ala Interact Club members who are from different countries such as Morrocco, Sierra Leone, Ethiopia, South Africa, Zimbabwe and Botswana.

Rotary Club of Randburg president, Bronwyn Ward said one of the most important things for the rotary was to start an Interactive Club, which is the youth division of Rotary. The organisation believes in young people getting used to giving back to the community.

“This is the first meeting the club has ever had, where every new member will be awarded for their membership. My message for the inductees is that they have started a wonderful journey of fellowship and service. They must serve their community whenever they can but must not forget to have fun while doing it,” said Ward.

A special dinner was prepared for guests, who also used this time to socialise and look forward to the evening’s proceedings. Ala Interactive Club president, Miranda Tichareva said she would describe her organisation in two words – servant and leadership.

“In every single project and meeting, our members do it through emotional intelligence, self-awareness, self-regulation and a lot of compassion. Ala is a very busy school and all our members are committed to our projects. Our members are currently working on two projects called Kijani, which is all about environmental sustainability. Students make compost out of organic waste,” said Tichareva.

She added that their other project is involved in supporting the Emthonjeni Comunity Centre with compost, as a fundraising initiative. The members have also been trained to maintain the soil around the campus.
