Hit the trail

BORDEAUX – Get on your bike and ride.

It’s time to forget all your duties because the Old Parktonian Sports Club is calling for cyclists seeking adventure.

Robbie McIntosh, a cycling legend who was one of the first professional cyclists in the country, will head a new cycling section at the club, with a launch to take place at the end of April.

Robbie McIntosh tries out the route along the Braamfontein Spruit.

The exact date is still to be confirmed.

Old Parks promises on-road and off-road rides, with a beautiful stretch of the Braamfontein Spruit running parallel to the club.

There will be big organised rides, weekend rides, morning rides during the week as well as rides you can do on your own or with friends at leisure.

The trails and events will be open to all cyclists, but members of Old Parks will have the benefit of full facility use, free bike washes, regular cycling talks about training, set-up, bicycle maintenance and nutrition. Members will also have access to the club’s gym.

Robbie McIntosh cannot wait to start the cycling section at Old Parktonian Sports Club.

“We especially want to invite families, as children can play on the jungle gyms while the parents ride, and the Rustic Café at Old Parks is fantastic,” McIntosh said. “Cycling can be very social, both competitive and non-competitive. It is quick and easy and Old Parks is very central, and the routes are beautiful – I think everyone will have a great time.”

McIntosh added that sponsorship opportunities were still available for companies to put their mark on events, prizes and advertising at the club.

He encouraged anyone who wanted to find out more, to contact him.
