Johannesburg Water replaces water pipes in Boskruin
BOSKRUIN – The City will communicate planned water shutdowns with the residents in advance.
The major four-month project to replace water pipes in Boskruin is well underway.
Johannesburg Water is replacing the existing asbestos pipes with high-impact pipes in extensions four and five.
“The project will reduce recurring pipe bursts, which result in great inconvenience, and further reduce water loss,” said the entity’s spokesperson, Tidimalo Chuene.
She said there will be planned shutdowns in the suburb where water supply will be interrupted for the duration of not more than eight hours.
“Notices will be issued to… affected areas. Should there be problems or challenges encountered that cannot be resolved within the stipulated time, it will be communicated to the residents through the Council’s liaison officers,” she said.

Ward 101 councillor Dalu Cele said streets such as Sinclair Road, Sherwell Avenue, Sharrow Road, Darley Avenue and Castle Road will be affected for the duration of the project.
“Due to the recent rains in February, tree roots that need to be cut and the City Power cable that runs parallel to the water pipes require extra care, hence the project is behind schedule,” he said.
Cele said the project was, however, progressing as there were no major issues reported thus far.
