The Department of Social Development has started the rollout of urban farming facilities across the City and the open land next to the Linden Police Station has been set aside for this.
The department has invited the community to an engagement meeting to discuss the project and its impact.
Urban Agricultural Farming, as it is called, is a skill and growth development plan to help selected people by educating them about selling and marketing their produce.
These people are specifically chosen by the department.
Ward 99 councillor, Nicole van Dyk said she has seen the plans for the project and believes that all seems well.
“I’ve been assured that no one will stay on the property and there will be no traffic increase,” she said. She added that there is a possibility of a monthly market involving residents and local businesses. “This proposal, however, needs to be approved by the community.”
Although this is not the ward councillor’s project, she urges members of the community to join the meeting on 22 March.
It will begin at 7pm, but residents are asked to arrive from 6.30pm at the Linden Police Station hall.
