Blandford Road upgrade in North Riding is progressing

NORTH RIDING – Construction of Blandford Road is delayed by one month.

The extension of Blandford Road in North Riding was expected to be completed by the end of April.

The 1km road extension project commenced in August last year.

The scope of this project by Johannesburg Roads Agency includes surfacing of the current gravel road, construction of paved walkways, laying of kerbs, installation of road signs and road markings.

The City’s entity will also install the stormwater drainage system including storm water outlets and subsoil drains. The contractor was also expected to relocate streetlights and optic fibre cables.

Ward 101 councillor Dalu Cele said the project was facing delays, however, an alternative solution was being implemented.

Ward 101 councillor Dalu Cele says an alternative solution is sought to ensure that the Blandford Road project is completed.

“A highlight of the project status meeting is that the project is at 82 per cent completion. City Power underground cable is still not relocated. This has resulted in the construction programme to follow an alternative sequence than originally anticipated,” Cele said.

He added that a public meeting would be held with all the residents who were impacted during this construction before the completion of the project.

Spokesperson for the agency, Bertha Peters-Scheepers said the project delays were attributable to the required relocation of electrical cables from the road reserve during which the agency was installing kerbs and paving.

“This led to a one-month extension on the contract,” Peters-Scheepers said.
