A temporary solution on Jacaranda Avenue
OLIVEDALE – The three-way stop sign is an interim solution as JRA waits for City Power to provide power supply.
The three-way stop sign on the corner of Hornbill Road and Jacaranda Avenue is a temporary solution to control the flow of traffic in Olivedale.
The Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) initially conducted investigations and subsequently established a need for traffic lights at this intersection.
This followed the problem of speed and access to the road to various complexes situated along Jacaranda Avenue.
“In the meantime, the developer, Balwin Properties, has installed a temporary three-way stop sign until such time that power supply has been provided for the developer to install traffic signals,” said Ward 101 councillor Dalu Cele.
He said this would be a temporary solution while they wait for the agency to install permanent traffic lights.
Cele said they would also rely on pointsmen during peak hours to avoid any congestion.
The agency’s spokesperson Bertha Peters-Scheepers said they have approved the traffic signal design and the developer has already installed the required sleeves.
“Once the developer has contracted City Power, the necessary power supply will be implemented and JRA will be able to begin installation, which we expect to undertake within four weeks once the power supply is available,” she said.
