Sharonlea Primary hosts its favourite book characters

SHARONLEA – Cinderella, prince charming and superheroes all come alive at Sharonlea Primary School's Character Day.

Book characters stepped out of the books and came alive at Sharonlea Primary School on 3 March as the school celebrated World Book Day.

The pupils all dressed up in their favourite characters and even though there were many princesses, pirates and even minions, the pupils were eager to show off their costumes and enjoyed the day being superheroes and royalty.

They promoted creativity all around.

Head of the English department at the school, Samantha Botes said they aimed to promote literacy during Literacy Week at the school.

“The learners were allowed to dress up as their favourite characters and they went to a lot of effort and spent lots of time on their characters,” she said.

She explained that almost all the pupils and teachers participated in the day’s activities and there was a great spirit of books all around.

“Our school is very pro reading and we encourage the learners to bring their books to school and today we celebrated our favourite characters in the books that we read at the school,” Botes added.

She pointed out that Readers Warehouse had set up at the school selling books to pupils to encourage them to keep on reading.
