Three suspects behind bars for human trafficking

KENSINGTON B – Three suspects who allegedly lured a woman from Northern Cape and forced her into prostitution are behind bars.

 

KENSINGTON B – Three suspects who allegedly lured a woman from the Northern Cape and are said to have forced her into prostitution in Randburg, are behind bars.

Randburg police arrested the trio aged between 23 and 36 on the weekend of 25 February in Bordeaux.

According to a police report, a woman was sleeping on Saturday afternoon when one of the suspects allegedly woke her up and tried to force her to clean the house.

When she refused, the man allegedly started to assault her and chased her off the property.

“The victim then decided to call the police and reported the matter. She alleged that she was lured from the Northern Cape whereby she was promised a job,” said police spokesperson Captain Johannes Maja.

The woman was allegedly given R4 000 on her arrival in Gauteng. She was then fed drugs and allegedly forced into prostitution since April last year.

“The suspects were immediately arrested and will appear in the Randburg Magistrates’ Court facing charges of human trafficking,” he said.

Earlier in January, two men and two women were also arrested in connection with human trafficking. They have since appeared at the Randburg Magistrates’ Court and were remanded in custody.

Randburg police also arrested 45 drunk drivers, four suspects for possessions of dagga, as well as those for assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm, shoplifting, theft and illegal gambling over the weekend of 25 and 26 February.
