ROBINHILLS – The schoolchildren of The King’s School Robinhills raised more than R6 000 for the Cancer Association of South Africa (Cansa) through a sprayathon held at the school on 24 February.
Brittany Coetzee, a history teacher at the school, explained that the school held the sprayathon where the schoolchildren had their hair sprayed in different colours.
“We hold this event every year as it is part of the school’s motto to make a difference in people’s lives. The learners love getting involved in this project as it is quite fun,” Coetzee said.
She explained that it was the first time that the preschool got involved in a sprayathon and that the school recognised that there are families who have been impacted by cancer, and the sprayathon was aimed at showing support to the families.
Sylvia van Rensburg, whose son and niece attends The King’s Scholl Robinhills, was diagnosed with breast cancer last year and admitted that her illness had impacted her family.
“I am currently in the process of undergoing treatment for breast cancer and it’s been very hard, I never expected it to be this way,” she said.
Van Rensburg applauded the school and the children for their support.
