Bright future beckons for Motonkole

NORTH RIDING – A student who has been living in an orphanage for three years receives a bursary.

NORTH RIDING – Coralie Motonkole, who has been living at Mother of Peace orphanage for the past three years while completing high school, was awarded a bursary by  Makiti Guides and Tours to do an online eight-month tour guide course.

Her mother cannot look after her and her two brothers, but now that she lives at the orphanage her hope has been restored.

“My dream is to one day own my own business and have a family. I also plan to give back to the community,” she said.

Apart from Motonkole’s bursary, Mother of Peace received a cash donation from EE Publishers, and residents of Ward 134 donated several bags of clothing items.

The orphanage, described by Ward 134 DA chairman Johan Smit as a selfless organisation, houses 42 children.

“Last year in December, Irene Blythe from EE Publishers approached us enquiring about charity organisations within our ward that were in need of assistance,” Smit said. “With the assistance of and coordination from Charmaine Manicom of EE Publishers, it was made possible for Mother of Peace to receive a generous donation of R10 000 towards the daily running of the children’s home.”

He added that the home needed volunteers to help the children with homework. “We as the DA branch committee for Ward 134 would like to appeal to the public and residents to assist us in helping Mother of Peace, whether it is your time, donations or services.”
