R6000 fine for possession of drugs

KENSINGTON B – A drug suspect was fined R6000, 00 after lengthy police investigations and court process.

 

KENSINGTON B – A man who was arrested for possession of drugs on the corner of Bram Fischer Drive and Dover Street in Ferndale in 2013 received a fine of R6 000.

Andries Khumalo (28) was recently given the fine or two months in custody suspended for a period of three years by the Randburg Magistrates’ Court.

Khumalo was spotted by two police officials, Constable Baatseba Nyathi and Constable Noko Sekgobela in June 2013.

Police requested to search him as he looked suspicious.

“He agreed to their request and he was thoroughly searched. Officers found a small plastic wrap containing drugs. He was placed under arrest for being in possession of drugs,” said Randburg police spokesperson, Captain Johannes Maj.

He said Khumalo decided to plead guilty to the charge after a lengthy investigation and court processes.

Being a first-time offender, he was fined R6 000 or two months in prison entirely suspended for a period of three years.

“We applaud the members for their dedication in removing drugs from our streets,” said Maj.

Another suspect, Nomathemba Moyo,  was fined R6 000 or three months imprisonment suspended for five years for shoplifting by the same court.

Police indicated that they will not tolerate shoplifters in their policing precinct.
