Witkoppen Road is a no go!

DOUGLASDALE – Localised flooding is a serious threat to all motorists and pedestrians.

DOUGLASDALE – Heavy rains has caused Witkoppen Bridge to flood which has led to its closing.
Multiple reports have surfaced regarding low-lying areas which have flooded.
Spokesperson for Johannesburg Emergency Management Services, Robert Mulaudzi has warned motorists to avoid driving into flooded areas.

Mulaudzi said, “Those living in low-lying areas like the informal settlements must monitor water levels and move to higher ground when there is a need to do so. Motorists are urged to reduce speed and to drive with extra caution since most of our roads are wet and slippery.”

 

Witkoppen Road has been closed between Bowling Avenue and Rivonia Road in Sunninghill, as well as Witkoppen Road heading west from Douglas Drive toward Northgate, near the Douglasdale Police Station.

“All our 28 fire stations throughout the city are fully operational and all our rescuers and disaster management officials will remain on high alert throughout the day and overnight.

“This is to monitor all our low-lying areas, especially our 189 informal settlements since they are the hardest hit when we have flooding incidents. We will make sure that we can respond to any emergency which might occur as quickly as possible,” he said.
