This new depot project on Hans Schoeman Street in Malanshof, which cost the City about R52.5 million, is estimated for completion by the end of February next year.

Mike Wood, the Ward 104 councillor said the construction of the new depot on municipal-owned land was a great achievement for the City. “This is exciting news to the residents of Randburg,” he said.

Johannesburg Water New development manager Tibor Csermak, David Schoultz from Delta Bec consultants with Ward 104 Councillor Mike Wood at the construction site.

The site was handed over to the contractor in July last year. The new depot will house the current regional office personnel and the district office personnel. It is also expected to provide accommodation for standby personnel and warehouses for the storage of equipment and spares.

The construction of the new depot is expected to be completed by February next year.

The entity’s spokesperson Tidimalo Chuene said the work includes civil, building, electric, electronic, mechanical works, fire water installation and landscaping.

“Provision of adequate office space for personnel and parking will create an environment required in line with the health and safety standards that Johannesburg Water subscribes to,” said Chuene.

She said the storage facilities would help the entity to load necessary maintenance material on site and thus further improving in response time for service assignments.

“Accommodation for standby teams will enable quick response to after hour emergencies and move away from restrictions outlined in lease agreements related to property use and improvements,” she concluded.

The entity’s depot in Randburg is currently located on the Corner of Hammer Road Standard Close in Strydom Park.
