MUST READ: No water for the next three days after a burst pipe

NORTH RIDING – over 40 Randburg and Northcliff suburbs will be without water for three days after a pipe burst.

NORTH RIDING – More than 40 suburbs in Randburg and Northcliff will be without water for three days after a massive water pipe burst on 13 February on Norman Drive in Northcliff.

According to the spokesperson of Johannesburg Water, Eleanor Mavimbela repairs on the main pipes will take up to 72 hours to repair but added that water tankers have been supplied in several areas.

“The pipe was damaged by a contractor who was busy with pipe installation in the area and we are currently engaging with the contractor to recover on losses of water and repair costs,” she said.

However, she explained that the liability of the contractor was lessened by the fact that he had obtained a way leave from the Johannesburg Road Agency JRA.

“All contractors are required to obtain a way leave from JRA before they can work in the road reserve and part of this process is to supply them with drawings of where our water and sanitation infrastructure is running” Mavimbela added.

Mavimbela apologised on behalf of the water utility for the inconvenience to all affected consumers and appealed for patience during this period. “Consumers in the area not experiencing water shortages are urged to reduce consumption to immediate household needs to avoid rapid decline in available supply,” she said.
