The cycling fraternity in Randburg was reeling with shock following the death of Andrew Bradford who was killed after a hit and run in Boskruin on the morning of 26 January.

Honeydew police spokesperson Captain Balan Muthan said, “The investigation is at a sensitive stage and we could not divulge any information now.”

Fellow cyclist, Collin Anderson who last spoke to Bradford said there was an outcry from residents and cyclists who expressed their anger and sympathy to the family. “It is absolutely devastating. We are gutted and extremely sad for the family,” he said.

Anderson added that they always ensured that they followed all the safety precautions while riding. “We always carry a bag tied with a triangle and we ride with a headlamp and maintain a distance between us to ensure that we are safe,” said Anderson.

He said Bradford was an outstanding citizen of the country involved in various initiatives and a loving husband to his wife and children. “His family is so gutted at the moment. It is very painful and it should not be like this,” he said.

Another cycling group member and a friend, Jacques Swart said the accident was tragic and they have lost a dear friend. He said they used to cycle together almost every single day. “Our group is standing strong and we are supporting the family during this tragic time,” he said.

Swart said he started the cycling group and they used to cycle together almost six days a week. He added that they would like the senseless drinking and driving to completely stop.
