MUST READ: Police on manhunt after armed robbery at Nando’s

FERNDALE – Armed men make customers lie down on the ground as they take their cash, cellphones and car keys.

Randburg Police are looking for at least one male suspect, after a group of customers were held up at gunpoint at the Nando’s at Appletons Village, Ferndale.

The men took a bag of cash from the registers as well as car keys and cellphones from community members in the store. The men then made the customers lie down on the ground, and attempted to make a getaway at around 7.30pm on 20 January.

A Fidelity Security officer, who wished only to be known by his first name, Sipho, was driving past at the time. “The police had arrived by then and when one guy came out to get in a blue car with another suspect, he saw the police outside and then ran away on foot,” Sipho explained.

Sipho drove after the man and apprehended him, recovering a bag of cash and a pistol. At least one other suspect got away with the car keys and cellphones, and possibly more cash.

Police spokesperson, captain Balan Muthan said that the number of suspects as well as value of any missing items and cash could not be divulged to the public. “A case of armed robbery has been opened and police are investigating,” he said.
