St Stithians pupils achieve 100 per cent pass rate

LYME PARK – About 255 pupils who wrote the IEB examinations obtain 100 per cent pass rate.

St Stithians Boys’ and Girls’ colleges achieved a 100 per cent pass rate in this year’s Independent Examinations Board (IEB) National Senior Certificate examinations.

About 250 pupils from both colleges wrote the exam and obtained 100 per cent Matriculation pass rate with 99 per cent of them being a Bachelor Degree passes.

Pupils achieved a total of 594 subject distinctions.

In the Girls College, about 105 candidates wrote the examination with 25 learners achieving more than four distinctions each, while anther four girls each achieved the school’s Academic Honours Summa Cum Laude award which is an average of 90 per cent or more. Meanwhile 79 per cent of girls achieved one or more distinctions.

From the Boys’ college about 142 pupils from 145 who wrote the exam achieved the Admission for Bachelor Degree Studies. About 39 boys achieved four or more distinctions while seven of them achieved the school’s Academic Honours Summa Cum Laude award and 78 per cent of boys achieved one or more distinctions.

Zhao Ruoxing Grace plans to study Biomedical Engineering in America

Ruoxing Grace Zhao from the Girls College achieved seven distinctions in Accounting, Afrikaans First Advanced Language, English Home Language, French Second Additional Language, Life Orientation, Life Sciences, Mathematics, Physical Sciences, and Advanced Programme Mathematics.

She would like to study Biomedical Engineering in America, preferably at Cornell University.

Michael de Vos in the Boys’ College is placed on the IEB’s list for Outstanding Achievement, which is the top five per cent of pupils who excelled nationally. He achieved distinctions in English Home Language, Afrikaans First Additional Language, Mathematics, Life Sciences, Physical Sciences, History and Life Orientation.

De Vos was also in the Dukes and the Boys’ College Choir, and he was head of house for Webb house.
