Christmas cheer in Radiokop

RADIOKOP – Christmas cheer was all around as Santa Claus rewarded children for donating their previously-loved toys.

Santa Claus arrived all the way from the North Pole to spread some Christmas cheer in Radiokop.

Londoloza Protection Group and several residents associations held a toy collection drive for charity on 10 December where children donated their toys and received a party pack in return.

CEO of Londoloza, Dana le Roux said they wanted to do something for the community and roped in several resident associations to help them bring Christmas cheer to the less fortunate.

“We are collecting previously loved toys to encourage children to give back to others and also it teaches the children that in order to get something, one must also give something,” she said.

Le Roux added that the toys would be handed over to the children at St Laurence’s Children’s Haven in Discovery, and several other organisations.

She also explained that the reason Santa Claus arrived in a Londoloza armoured tank instead of his traditional sleigh with nine reindeer was that they wanted to introduce their new vehicle to the residents.

“The tank will be used for patrolling purposes and it is one of 250 tanks made in 1984. We have refurbished [it] and we want to assure residents that we will be visible throughout the festive season,” she said.

JP Pretorius of Welview Residents Association joined the Radiokop Residents Association in collecting toys and spreading Christmas cheer. “We want to remind our residents to be safe and alert throughout the festive season,” he said.

The Pick n Pay at the BP garage in Radiokop, ER 24, Welview and Radiokop Resident Associations all joined Londoloza on the toy drive.
