Northwold family escapes car blaze

Northwold family escapes uninjured after their fancy Mercedes Benz caught fire

Joy Sande from Northwold is thankful to motorists who gave her heads up on Wednesday, 7 December, after her Mercedes Benz caught fire on Northumberland Avenue between the Ticket Pro Dome and Northgate Mall.

Sande, who was taking her three children to school, said she had no idea of what was happening when motorists hysterically hooted at her and shouted through her window to get out of the car.

Seconds later she realised the car had a problem and swiftly pulled over and took her children and important valuables such as her hand bag out of the car.

“I managed to take my handbag and the children also managed to grab their school bags. But other work documents were burnt with the car,” said a traumatised Sande.

Sande told Randburg Sun that she noticed that the car was faulty two days ago. “The car has been releasing black smoke from the exhaust for the past two days but after a long drive, it drove well,” Sande explained.

The vehicle was gutted completely. The fire department was dispatched to the scene to extinguish the blaze.

Bracken Naidoo from Er24 said no injuries were sustained. He added that they managed to close the road and direct drive to alternative routes.
