Councillor Cele – Safety should be our priority during this festive season

SHARONLEA – Ward 101 councillor will continue to prioritise the challenges within the ward when the year begins.

Ward 101 councillor Dalu Cele believes that safety is the most important element during the festive seasons.

“I wish residents in Ward 101 happy holidays during this festive period. The most important thing during this time of the year is safety for all the residents, their families and children,” he said.

He emphasised that residents should enjoy this wonderful time with their families and insisted that those who were travelling to various destinations should travel safely.

“During this time, residents and their families need to make sure that they look after the safety aspects within the ward,” he said.

“We need to celebrate carefully and ensure that we do not transgress the City’s bylaws during this time.”

He added that noise pollution was a common problem during the festive season as most residents spent their time celebrating.

“Residents must make sure that they are safe and their homes are safe during this time of the year. As a councillor in this ward, I’ve seen a lot of progress over the past few months and we will apply the same energy in the fight against crime next year,” he said.

Plans for 2017

Cele said he would continue to prioritise the issues within the ward which he inherited from the previous councillor.

Some of the persisting challenges were the crime incidents in Golden Harvest Park and illegal dumping within the ward. “We will prioritise on educating residents about illegal dumping in the ward. We will educate residents about the dumping sites where residents need to dump their trash and their rubble,” he said.

He emphasised that he would continue with the initiatives of combating crime in Golden Harvest Park, the old Municipal Nursery, Banbury Cross Village and Olivenhout Avenue.

“This initiative which includes different stakeholders within the city and the residents, as well as private security companies and Douglasdale and Honeydew police will continue,” he said.

He added that they had planned to include private businesses within the ward to help them identify more hotspots and eradicate the crime scourge.

“The most important thing is that during the new year we will be dealing with the integrated development plan. All residents should get involved as they will have the opportunity to talk about the capital projects which should be included in the financial year.

“This includes among others the roads, infrastructure, electricity, water sewage and streetlights. We need to participate as the IDP [Integrated Development Plan], will be taken to the City Council as our wish list,” he concluded.
