Attempted Rape at Delta Park

An attempted rape was committed in Delta Park at midday.

A man was arrested in connection with an attempted rape in Delta Park.

Linden Police spokesperson, Captain Walter Spencer, said that the victim is currently at the police station being interviewed.

According to Spencer, the victim, a 34-year-old woman  was at Delta Park together with her daughter (5) on 26 November at about 12pm taking a walk when she saw a suspicious male by the trees near the Delta Park school. He approached them and grabbed the victim and pinned her to the ground. He tried to remove her skirt but she fought him and screamed.

The suspect then ran away and some contractors nearby heard the screams and pressed the panic button at a home in Delta Street and a CSS security officer, Selowa Khashane Eliya responded and saw the suspect attempting to run away. He then gave chase and arrested him in the park.

The suspect, who is approximately 30 years old was detained at Linden Police Station.

According to a volunteer at the park, Shirley Tebbutt, there were two attempted rapes on 26 November. The perpetrator lives in the park and has been harassing women and exposing himself to people for months. Tebbutt explained she has been trying to get the police to do something about the man for a long time and hopes that the arrest means that he will not return to the park as she is worried he will eventually rape someone.

According to the Facebook page, I love Parkhurst, an attempt was made on a woman and CSS Tactical later arrested the man responsible, however, the name of the victim is not the same as the police report.
