Help identify driver in hit and run

JOBURG – If anyone has any information about a hit-and-run accident on Malibongwe Drive, please come forward.

Ian Habib needs the community’s assistance in gaining information about a hit-and-run accident he was involved in.

On 30 September at about 11.45am, Habib was driving on the Malibongwe Drive N1 highway off-ramp. “I pulled up to the robot and saw a woman on her phone texting. It seems she was completely absorbed in her conversation,” added Habib.

Habib was driving his blue Ultra Glide Limited Edition Harley Davidson. According to Habib, the robot changed and he pulled off cautiously, it was then that the female driver hit Habib’s motorcycle.

“I drifted across the lane for about a metre to try and stabilise the bike and, in the process, I must have put my left leg out to help with balance.” When he had come to a stop he indicated to the driver who had hit him to pull over to exchange details. “She pulled off and turned right, I was about to drive after her, then I realised that my leg was hurt badly,” added Habib. He had broken his left tibia.

The only details of the vehicle that he can recall are that it was white and possibly a Hyundai, as well as a portion of the licence plate which was DZZ or DZ2.

Habib is the director of the Harley Davidson Clearwater chapter. “I have managed to narrow down the licence plate possibilities, but I need help from anyone who possibly witnessed this accident to help me.

“This just highlights the danger of motorists using their phone while driving.”
