900 meals for hungry children

LINDEN – 900 meals for the hungry delivered to Linden Police Station.

Stop Hunger Now joins forces with Linden police Women’s Network to feed hungry children.
A group of policewomen from the station has over recent years been involved in giving back to the community. Captain Sandra Veeran said, “We began with the Christmas Shoebox Project after hearing of it and have tried over the years to keep it up,” she said.
The partnership with Stop Hunger Now has seen about 900 meals given to Linden police, which will be donated to crèches in the area that are not registered and do not receive subsidies from the State.

“We will also try and assist at primary schools that have a need for these meals. Basically, we intend to ensure that a child is not hungry while at school or goes to sleep hungry,” added Veeran.
The women’s network will closely monitor the recipients and will provide feedback to Stop Hunger Now SA.
Veeran added that they are trying to slowly but surely address hunger experienced by children in certain areas of the community.

“[We hope] to increase community awareness and to persuade the community to get involvement in projects such as this,” added Veeran.
“To every social problem, there is a solution and we, at the Women’s Network Committee of Linden police intend on doing our very best to be part of the solution,” she said.
