A 25-year-old-man was arrested on 11 November in Ruiterhof for allegedly dealing in marijuana.
At about 6.30pm, a Linden Police Station patrol vehicle received information about a man said to be dealing drugs in the park. Sergeant Thandekile Mngomezulu and Constable Khazamula Hlungwane searched the park and found the man on the corner of Percy Street and Malibongwe Drive.

Linden police spokesperson Captain Walter Spencer said, “It is alleged that the suspect had dug holes in the ground and put empty five-litre paint tins inside them. The suspect apparently filled the tins with marijuana, closed them and covered them back over with sand.”
In total, the police recovered over 1.3kg of marijuana.
Spencer added, “According to the Drug Trafficking Act, we treat all drugs as the same, this includes marijuana.” He explained that the police do not distinguish between drugs or have a preference of which to prosecute. “Any substance abuse or dealing in drugs has a high likelihood of leading to other crimes.”
Spencer explained that marijuana is a gateway drug to other harmful substances. “The problem is that users sometimes don’t always stick to just smoking but add other drugs like nyaope and crystal meth.”
