Councillor’s Corner: Pesky potholes

JOBURG – Read this weeks' question in Councillor's Corner.

This week, Ashtyn Mackenzie from Allen’s Nek asks:
Why do some potholes that get fixed tend to reappear a few weeks later? What is the process of repairing a pothole?
Ward 99 councillor Nicole van Dyk, answers:
There are a lot of procedures to follow when fixing a pothole. The hole should be cleaned out meticulously; the area around the hole should be cut out to remove any loose material and then it should be filled in. The gradient of the road should be kept the same throughout.
It is possible that the guidelines are not being followed if the pothole continues to appear.
To report a pothole to the Johannesburg Roads Agency, call 0860 562 874 send an e-mail to hotline@jra.org.za or download the agency’s mobile application where you take a picture and coordinates of the pothole and a reference number are given to you.
