Brick by brick

NORTH RIDING – SPCA Randburg is getting bigger and better to help the animals of the community.

Brick by brick the Randburg SPCA has slowly grown, and it’s all thanks to the community.
Randburg SPCA ran a campaign where members of the public could buy a brick for a certain amount. For Mandela Day, each brick cost R67 and the proceeds were used to upgrade the facilities.
A lot of work needed to be done on the catteries that were in desperate need of a new roof.
Also, brand-new infirmary kennels have been erected for the cats and dogs that are under the SPCA’s care. Many of the kennels are still to be completed but much progress can be seen.
General manager Craig Rudman said, “We have been able to do all of this work through the amazing contributions made by the public. Donations have come in all forms, whether it has been large companies or the lone donor; we greatly appreciate them all.”
Rudman explained how a few kennels have been specially created for the animals that come in overnight. “When we get an animal, we aren’t always sure what diseases it may have and this can put other animals at risk,” said Rudman. With the introduction of the new kennels, new animals are secluded from the general population until the vet gives the go ahead.
“The kennels are nearing completion and I think everyone is excited for the difference they are going to make for the animals. Thank you to each and every person or company that has helped us reach our dream.”
