Five kidnappers arrested

KENSINGTON B – Five suspects have appeared in the Randburg Magistrate's Court on charges of kidnapping.

Five suspects have appeared in the Randburg Magistrates’ Court in Kensington B on 2 November on charges of kidnapping.
Randburg Police Station’s spokesperson, Captain Makgowanyana Maja said that on 30 October, at around 12.30 pm, the complainant was at one of the retail stores inside the Ferndale CBD when she was approached by one of the suspects who pretended to be one of the store’s employees.
“The complainant alleged that the suspect then asked her how much she wanted to spend and [and told her about] some of the promotions in the store. The suspect then started to play with the complainant’s two-year-old,” Maja explained.
He added that while the suspect was playing with the baby he suddenly grabbed the child and ran out of the store with the complainant running after him. Maja further explained that while screaming for help from other customers outside the store the suspect jumped into a car that was waiting outside but fortunately several taxi drivers who were parked next to the store gave chase after the car the suspect had jumped into.
Maja noted that they caught up with the fleeing suspects who were then arrested. “The suspects have appeared in court for a bail application and were remanded in custody,” he said.
Maja indicated that the investigation continues.
