Councillor’s Corner: Adding traffic signs

JOBURG – Read this week's question about stop signs in the Councillor's Corner...

This week, Amy Ingram from Windsor East asks:
What are the channels one can follow to get a stop sign erected to form a three- or four-way stop to help alleviate traffic and help prevent accidents?
Ward 101 councillor, Dalu Cele answers:
The correct channel is to contact the Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA). The agency will submit an application to the traffic engineering section to conduct an investigation.
This process will then indicate what type of traffic signal needs to be erected. For example, if it requires that the agency installs a traffic light, other services will be required such as electricity.
If the process suggests a stop sign rather than a traffic light, this might be quicker as it means that they just need to amend traffic signs on the road and paint a new stop sign.
