Friends of Olivedale Library hosts Collin Mead

OLIVEDALE – Friends of Olivedale Library hosts Colin Mead who spoke about his published books.

Friends of Olivedale Library (Fool) hosted well-known wildlife photographer, Colin Mead on 26 October, who gave a short talk on his travels.

Chairperson of Fool, Jackie Young explained that they held such talks every last Wednesday of the month. “We raise funds for the Olivedale Library and we also take care of the book room, where we collect and sell second-hand books from residents,” she explained.

Mead touched on his travels where he took photographs that have been printed in his books titled, Shadows of Sand, Wilderness Heritage, Naked Wilderness and Images of the Wild Africa and North America.

He explained to attendees that some of his photos were taken in the Kruger National Park, Antarctica, Botswana, Namibia and East Africa as he showed the photos. “I had a chance meeting on a plane with Howard Buffet, the son of Warren Buffet and since we were both photographers, we decided to embark on a trip to Antarctica where we collaborated on the book, Images of the Wild Africa and North America,” he said.

Mead further explained that he has been a professional photographer since 1995 and how his passion became a full-time job. Mead usually has a stall at the Bryanston Organic and Natural Market, every Thursday.
